Stop Asian Hate

A Message from our Executive Director

Today our hearts break for the eight people who were shot in Georgia yesterday, six of whom were Asian women.

As an Asian-American woman, I have been painfully aware of the increase in hate crimes against Asians across the country. The anti-Asian rhetoric and the senseless blaming of Asians by our former white supremecist president, coupled with our country’s long history of anti-Asian hate has emboldened racists to attack our communities and our families.

We will not sit idly by as a deadly echo chamber of lies continues to kill our loved ones.

Asians have a right to live, work, and be safe in our communities. And while it’s understandable that at a time like this, civic engagement is not at the front of our minds, building power in communities is most important in times of crisis. Our communities deserve leaders who work to protect them, to dispel misinformation that incites violence, and that fight for their safety and wellbeing.

Our commitment stands. We will continue to support and build power in Asian, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, immigrant, and other communities of color. We will fight alongside AAPIs and allies for leaders who will Stop Asian Hate.

We thank our Georgia partners National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum and Asian American Advocacy Fund for their work empowering the AAPI community of Georgia and will continue to amplify their efforts.

Stop killing us.

In solidarity,

Christina Baal-Owens
