WASHINGTON, D.C. – The following statement can be attributed to Christina Baal-Owens, Executive Director, Public Wise:

“On what should be a joy-filled and celebratory weekend for so many in the AAPI community, we are overcome by shock and grief at the violent murders of 10 people at a Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park, California. As the deadliest shooting in the US since the tragic school shooting in Uvalde, there are few words that can express the pain being felt by the families of the victims and AAPI folks all around the world and it is important for us to collectively grieve this loss. At Public Wise, we are committed to turning our grief into action and fighting alongside our partners across social justice movements to end the epidemic of gun violence in America rooted in hatred. Stop killing us.”
