Georgia’s Runoff Election

Public Wise heavily invested in Georgia during the 2020 election cycle. We funded organizations, ran focus groups, and polled BIPOC voters.

Now, there is more work to do. Georgia’s runoff election on January 5, 2021 will determine the balance of the United States Senate.

Our partners at the New Georgia Project explained the urgency:

“Why is there a runoff in January? In November, Georgia voters had the unique opportunity to vote for two U.S. Senate seats. Because no one candidate got 50% of the vote in either election, they are both going to runoff elections: the first between incumbent Sen. David Perdue (R) and Jon Ossoff (D) and the second between incumbent Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) and Rev. Raphael Warnock (D). Control of the Senate also rests on the outcome of these races. Voter registration is occurring RIGHT NOW and ends December 7.

Early voting begins December 14, so we need to get started contacting Georgia voters right away.”

Public Wise has now dedicated more funds to our partners on the ground in Georgia.
We encourage our network to do the same to help fund organizing efforts as quickly as possible.

These organizations are all led by Black or AAPI women: Nse Ufot of the New Georgia Project, Latosha Brown of Black Voters Matter, Nykidra Robinson of Black Girls Vote, Aisha Yaqoob Mahmood of Asian American Advocacy Fund, Sung Yeon Choimorrow at the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF), and of course, Leader Stacey Abrams.

Their work over the last several years, culminating in the past few months helped register over 1 Million new voters is the reason this Georgia runoff is even possible. Additional funds help the work of BIPOC women leaders build on this momentum for a strong showing for the January 5th runoffs.
