WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Public Wise, an organization committed to fighting for a multiracial democracy that reflects the will and protects the rights of the people, released the following statement  in response the Republican Party declaring the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 “legitimate public discourse”:

“Calls to action that mobilize people from around the US to bring weapons to our nation’s Capitol and perpetrate violence against members of Congress, Capitol Police, and government employees are not examples of legitimate political discourse. This is a jarring reminder of how deeply the Republican party has been corrupted by Trump loyalists spreading dangerous dis-information and rhetoric rooted in white supremacy. January 6th was just the beginning of a coordinated campaign by the alt-right, and we must come together to fight back against deadly threats to American democracy and legitimately held elections,” said Christina Baal-Owens, Executive Director of Public Wise.
