WASHINGTON, D.C. — Public Wise, an organization committed to fighting for a multiracial democracy that reflects the will and protects the rights of the people, released the following statement in response to reports that the January 6th House Select Committee are split on whether to make a criminal referral to the Justice Department on former President Donald J. Trump:
“The January 6th committee performed an investigation that was funded by the people on behalf of the people. Americans deserve to know the results. It is the committee’s duty to release their findings and to refer President Trump to the Justice Department if sufficient evidence exists. Accountability and transparency are not political acts; they are virtues that should be upheld by government officials across the ideological spectrum. Withholding a criminal referral for fear of how it will appear, on the other hand, is a naked politicization of government’s core function and should worry everyone who values our democracy,” said Christina Baal-Owens, Executive Director of Public Wise.
